These are the Old Age Security dates from Service Canada's calendar; the Canada Pension Plan is paid on exactly the same days.

Outside December the 2026 dates run from the 25th, in February and September, to the 29th, in July. December's payment, on the 22nd, is the earliest of the year by three days.

The quarterly change

OAS and GIS are re-indexed four times a year. When the Consumer Price Index rises, the payment rises with the January, April, July and October deposits; when it falls, the payment stays where it is. Service Canada compares the latest three months of the index with the last three-month period that triggered an increase, so a quarter can pass with no change at all.

That makes those four deposits the ones to compare against the previous month. GIS amounts also depend on your income and are reset each July from the previous year's return, so July can move for two reasons at once.

Getting the money

Direct deposit is the fastest way to be paid. Cheques go in the mail over the final three business days of the month, so they land after the date shown here, and Service Canada asks anyone missing a payment to give it five to ten business days, then call. GIS comes on the same day as the OAS pension.
